{"id":11291,"date":"2023-09-20T12:56:45","date_gmt":"2023-09-20T11:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/distribution.audio-technica.eu\/ce\/?p=11291"},"modified":"2025-01-06T12:58:53","modified_gmt":"2025-01-06T12:58:53","slug":"audient-news-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/distribution.audio-technica.eu\/ce\/news\/audient-news-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Audient news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Why would you need a\u00a0<strong>MONO<\/strong>\u00a0button?<\/p>\n<p>It might come handy if you were to record an Orchestra with 4 mics.<\/p>\n<p>It is indeed very common to record an Orchestra with and\u00a0<strong>OCCO<\/strong>\u00a0array on some sort of and\u00a0<strong>ORTF<\/strong>\u00a0in the middle and two Omni mics on the side right? This technique may really deliver some nice results if the &#8220;BAND&#8221; is great, positioning was made carefully, and there is a nice interface to capture it with. Not many times you may see one of iD series Audient preamps performing in\u00a0 such a situation, but if so, you can be sure the result would fit any broadcasting requirements due to the quality of the\u00a0iD preamps ,and flexibility of the iD routing app.<\/p>\n<p><strong>iD44MKII<\/strong>\u00a0is the unit what\u00a0<strong>Tomi Fr\u00f6berg<\/strong>\u00a0used recording\u00a0<em>Symphony No 5<\/em>\u00a0by Beethoven played by\u00a0Joensuu Orchestra\u00a0in Finland, and not only because it features a nice\u00a0<strong>MONO<\/strong>\u00a0button, that may come really handy in multi mic setups like this. Mics were positioned in the grandstand about 5-6 metres behind the conductor. He\u00a0hard-panned the ORTF mics and the AB (were positioned either side in a more AB-ish\u00a0 setup \u2013 were turned slightly toward the edges of the orchestra) were left in the between for better mono compatibility.<br \/>\nThe\u00a0<strong>MONO<\/strong>\u00a0button of the iD44 was\u00a0a massive help in stereo recording situations like this. It makes it faster to check phase when recording with multiple mics. For example, if sound becomes thinner when summed to mono, I know there might be some phase issues and I probably need to check the mic-ing. It saves time because I can just press the button and I don\u2019t need to use any plugins for mono-listening.<\/p>\n<p>As Tomi\u00a0said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The recording process went smoothly and it was easy! I just kept recording.
