The <\/span>recent <\/span>opening of Bradford recording facility KAD Studios is the <\/span>realisation<\/span> of a long-time dream for owner Karl <\/span>Dunnachie<\/span>. Located in the <\/span>centre<\/span> of the city, KAD features two production rooms and an impressive DJ set-up, which <\/span>Dunnachie<\/span> aims to make available for both pro and aspiring producers, musicians and DJs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The studio\u2019s three rooms all feature extensive sound treatment from <\/span>Portug<\/span>u<\/span>ese<\/span> specialists <\/span>Artnovion<\/span>, turning the 200 year old building into a highly usable, musical-sounding space. Previously used as a chiropodist\u2019s practice and left vacant for several years, the building required a back-to-brick restoration and conversion, which allowed <\/span>Dunnachie<\/span> the opportunity to design the creative spaces from the ground up, as he describes<\/span>\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was in touch with <\/span>Artnovion<\/span> \u2013 through UK distributor Audio-<\/span>Technica<\/span> \u2013 throughout the build process and they were incredibly helpful with both advice and the design service they provide. We supplied measurements and provided other info and they sent reports and suggested designs with 3D <\/span>visualisations<\/span>. We then worked to refine the initial designs to end up with fantastic results, both from a sonic and aesthetic point of view.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The two production studios feature a variety of <\/span>Artnovion<\/span> treatment solutions, including <\/span>Myron<\/span> E<\/span>diffusion panels, Andes and Orion absorption and Ulysses bass traps and absorption. The combination of corner, wall and ceiling-mounted treatment ensured significant control of reverb time and undesirable resonant frequencies, with the choice of wood, fabric and EPS finishes \u2013 in both black and white \u2013 enabling <\/span>Dunnachie<\/span> to match the <\/span>Artnovion<\/span> array to KAD\u2019s distinctive aesthetics.<\/span><\/p>\n

The studio\u2019s largest room is home to KAD\u2019s DJ set-up and also features <\/span>Artnovion\u2019s<\/span> Galan hybrid absorber-diffuser <\/span>and Bow Tox absorbers<\/span>, designed in conjunction with legendary acoustician and studio designer Jan Morel. <\/span>Additionally, <\/span>Artnovion\u2019s<\/span> Atlas Diffuser \u2013 in striking gloss white \u2013 was used on the studio\u2019s back wall to interrupt mid-range reflections without removing energy from the room.<\/span><\/p>\n

F<\/span>inally, the studios sport <\/span>Artnovion\u2019s<\/span> striking Vector Gaming desks, another Morel signature product. The desks\u2019 acoustically <\/span>optimised<\/span> surfaces, cable management and integrated bass trapping again combine good looks with excellent sonic performance.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been absolutely delighted with the whole <\/span>Artnovion<\/span> experience,\u201d says <\/span>Dunnachie<\/span>, \u201cwe couldn\u2019t have created the studios without the treatment products and the design process was fantastic.
