Leeds City College is the city\u2019s largest educational establishment, offering a wide variety of courses to more than 25,000 students<\/span>. The college recently\u00a0<\/span>expanded its facilities with\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0new \u00a360m state-of-the-art\u00a0<\/span>Quarry Hill\u00a0<\/span>C<\/span>ampus<\/span>, home to the School of Creative Arts<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>featuring an Allen & Heath\u00a0<\/span>dLive<\/span>\u00a0digital mixing system.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>\u00a0recommendation and demonstration by\u00a0<\/span>the audio sales division of\u00a0<\/span>A.C. Entertainment Technologies Ltd<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(AC-ET),\u00a0<\/span>the college\u00a0<\/span>opted for<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span>dLive<\/span>\u00a0C3500 control surface and CDM48\u00a0<\/span>MixRack<\/span>, fitted<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>Dante 64×64 networking card<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0for the campus\u2019\u00a0<\/span>soon<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to open theatre<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For use by both Theatre Design & Production and Music Production students, the\u00a0<\/span>dLive<\/span>\u00a0system will also be employed for public performances by theatre companies and community groups during holiday periods and outside of college hours. As such<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0the new system needed to meet a variety of criteria as the College\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Chief Theatre Technician and Teacher,\u00a0<\/span>Paul Graham-Bell\u00a0<\/span>explains.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe looked at several models from different manufacturers when trying to find a mixing solution to meet the demands of the theatre,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>he says<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0\u201c<\/span>T<\/span>he Theatre Design and Production students are taught sound design for dance and musical theatre<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0while Music Production courses cover both live sound and recording, so flexibility was very important. The control surface also needed to be simple enough to learn the basics of mixing, but also sufficiently powerful for students to explore advanced features and techniques. We also wanted to invest in something that was popular within the industry, to allow for meaningful hands-on experience that students can take with them when they qualify.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Graham-Bell adds,\u00a0<\/span>\u201cWe\u2019ve been delighted with the\u00a0<\/span>dLive<\/span>\u00a0system<\/span>. E<\/span>verything<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>from the ease of integration into our Dante network<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0to the simplicity of the user interface has confirmed it was the right choice for us.\u00a0<\/span>W<\/span>e\u2019re really looking forward to using it in our first season of production in 2020.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
